Orange Scones: 4 Days to Christmas 2020

I couldn’t help it! I had to try making more scones! With 4 days until Christmas, I have treated y’all with an orange scone recipe that I’ve tweaked a little bit. Merry Christmas, this is the best gift I can give you 😂

Yes, they are delicious! Melt in your mouth amazing. They are a little sweet, so if you need to lessen the sweetness a black tea like Earl grey would be good with it. I enjoyed a fruity white tea with my scone. Yum yum ♥️ Put on comfy socks, wrap some presents, and enjoy these orange goodies!

Orange Scones

1/3 cup sugar

zest of one large orange or two medium oranges

2 cups all-purpose flour (I used self rising but did not add the baking powder, baking soda, or salt ingredients)

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, frozen

1/2 cup sour cream OR 1/3 cup heavy cream (I made 1 cup by mixing 1/4 cup melted butter and 3/4 cup warm milk. Added a teaspoon of flour to thicken since I had low fat milk)

1 large egg

Orange Glaze

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

2-4 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

1.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil with baking spray.

2.) In a medium-sized bowl, gently toss flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

3.) In a separate small bowl, whisk sour/heavy cream and egg until completely smooth.

4.) In a large bowl, stir sugar and orange zest together until they are evenly distributed. Pour in flour mixture and grate frozen butter into mixture. Using your hands, work in the butter. Gently stir in cream mixture until just about combined. Form a ball and place in the refrigerator about 15 minutes.

5.) Shape triangles about 3/4 inch thick and transfer triangles onto prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1″ between them.

6.) Bake scones for 15-17 minutes or until the tops begin to golden. Allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes. During this time, prepare glaze. Stir together confectioner’s sugar and orange juice until smooth. Drizzle the tops of the scones with the glaze using a spoon.
