In the small town of Waynesboro, VA are a few stores to shop in and restaurants to eat at. We asked the owner of the bed and breakfast we were staying at some of her favorite places to eat. It’s always best to ask the locals! Out of her descriptions, we decided to try Green Leaf Grill. We went on a Saturday night, so we enjoyed listening to live music played by a guitarist.

We asked our waiter some of his favorite dishes. He suggested anything with seafood or steak because their chef is from New Orleans, and his cooking is inspired by the food made there. To start off, we ordered the shrimp stuffed hush puppies. We had never eaten shrimp in hush puppies before, and the menu claimed this option is “A Waynesboro Favorite!” It may have become this girl’s favorite too because a quick dip in the homemade chipotle ranch dressing had me reaching for more.

The appetizer was followed by our (maybe a little too sweet) watermelon cocktails and side salads. There is nothing too special about these things… though I will always enjoy having a maraschino cherry with a drink like this or on an ice cream sundae.

Ooooo now we get to the divine part of the meal. My friend and I split our entrees in half so we both could enjoy all the food. This dish is tender teres steak and shrimp with roasted poblano cream sauce. Also included is mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak melted in my mouth, and I wish the cream sauce was smothered on all of my food. It was amazing.

Our other entree was bacon wrapped scallops. The scallops were wrapped in bacon, as the name suggests, but the bacon is apple cider cured with chive butter sauce on top. Jasmine rice and green beans accompanied this mouth-watering dish. Call me peculiar, but I could have handled some of that roasted poblano creme sauce on here too. Yuuum.
