Fiumedinisi has two churches (at least that we saw). One can be seen in the main town square.

We only peeked inside this one but found it to have beautiful European style cathedral architecture.

On Sunday, we went to Nonno and Nonna’s church, where they were also married.

What’s a big family vacation without a little trouble. Our aunt decided she wanted to see more of the cathedral’s bells. She didn’t get too far before a church member beckoned her to come back down. After church, we were able to hear and see the bells being played by hand in the bell tower from on the ground outside.

The church service was a shortened mass due to it being a church holiday. Later that night, in Ali Terme (and I’m sure Fiumedinisi) we saw a procession going through the street in observance of the holiday.

Once church was over, we joined a few Sicilian cousins at La Rotonda. Important to note: if you have a large group, you need to make reservations in advance to make sure they have enough food.

La Rotonda had the best brioche with lemon granita we ate while in Sicily. Traditionally, in Sicily, you are supposed to dip the brioche in the granita, which I tried, but thoroughly enjoyed the brioche separately. They also had the best arancini I tried while in Sicily as well. Arancini is deep-fried rice balls with mozzarella and sauce.

While enjoying the food, we talked with our Sicilian cousins. One family member also recorded the conversation about family relations in order to make a future family tree document.

Today’s Fortnum and Mason tea is Countess Grey. This is a twist to the traditional Earl Grey of Pekoe tea and bergamot. Making the twist to this tea is the additional orange flavor added. Alone, the flavor is very strong, but with milk, you’ve got a beautifully well-balanced tea.

10 days down and 15 to go! We’re almost there!
