Syracuse- Walking: 8 Days to Christmas 2023

We power walked to the Neapolis Archaeological Park, and I can’t say I’m upset about it. It was a great workout! After the park, we set out to see a couple more sites quickly before meeting our family at the designated randevu location.

Mainly, we wanted to see the painting hanging behind the alter called “Burial of Saint Lucy” by the Italian artist Caravaggio. It is located in the church of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro. We would have enjoyed a visit to the Catacombs, but with our time crunch and the requirement to be on a set tour, we didn’t have time.

Outside of the cathedral is a large open area that could be considered a type of park. Though I’m not sure I would have felt comfortable if I was walking there alone.

There were some lovely areas we came across on our stroll through Syracuse. It was always beautiful to see blooming flowers and green healthy plants. June really is a great time to visit Sicily!

One of my favorite views was crossing the bridge into Ortigia. The waterway, boats, and architecture were worthy of taking a picture because we just didn’t have time to stop and savor the view. Regardless, we enjoyed everything we saw and did in Syracuse. I don’t think we needed to spend more than the day in Ortigia and Syracuse to hit the highlights of what they had to offer.

Punching out number 17 on Fortnum and Mason’s tea advent calendar is Victoria Grey. This is similar to Earl Grey tea with black tea and bergamot. However, it adds lavender and Fortnum’s Salisbury Plain Honey. I really like this blend, probably better than Earl Grey. If you brew it too long, it can become a little bitter but tastes good with milk.

Happy Sunday and one week until Christmas Eve!
