8 Days until Christmas 2025: to Oban, Scotland

We’re 8 days away, Wahoo!

Loch Lomand

We left Edinburgh on Highlands Experience Tours for a 5 day bus ride around the highlands. To our surprise, on the first day, a hurricane came through with hard rain and high winds. Huge thanks to our bus driver, who was a pro at navigating it and making our trip safe and magical!

Popsicle; accented on Loch Lomand pier

My son just wanted ice cream! The joys of traveling with a kiddo… but high winds and hell water, he found himself a popsicle to eat in the 60-degree hurricane.

Castle in Inveraray

A downfall of being on a bus tour is the time limits given for each stop. We drove through Kilmartin Glen and stopped for about 1.5 hours in Inveraray for lunch. We were told a castle was a 10-minute walk away. We also went to a sit-down restaurant at the Inverary Inn. So time was tight. Bless my cousin. After we ordered she watched my son and I ran (yes, that heavy breathing fast thing that’s been absent in my life for years) to the castle, snapped a few photos like the one above and made it back to my seat one minute before my food arrived.

Along our drive were sheep (literally thousands are all over Scotland), and we caught our first glimpse of highland cows/ Harry Coos. To add to this spectacular moment, there was a castle in the background.

We had a beautiful 30-minute stop at Saint Conan’s Kirk. Which gave us our first Scottish cat sighting!

At the end of this hurricane day, we made it to Oban! It was windy but beautiful! It’s a lovely town, but I wish we had the energy to go to the Cèilidh dance that is usually hosted on Mondays.

We did have gorgeous views from the seafood restaurant we ate at. Fun fact according to our bus driver, in Scotland, rainbows are created by unicorns.

While in Scotland, I purchased a variety pack of teas from Edinburgh Tea & Coffee Company. Today, I decided to try out Scottish Breakfast Tea. Like many breakfast teas, this one is blended with three black teas. Specifically, Assam, Ceylon and East Africa black teas. Without milk there is a wee bite, but with milk, it’s a perfectly delicious breakfast tea. As the box says “…a rich golden cup of tea with strength and loveliness to waken the taste buds”… and rest of body.
