Taormina- Historic: 20 Days to Christmas 2023

Driving into Taormina from Gole Alcantara was not an easy task. Be prepared for switchback roads that are a bit narrow. The best option is to park in one of the garages and walk from there (most of Taormina only allows for foot traffic anyways).

The views from Taormina were stunning.

In addition to the sea view, Mt. Etna is also visible and was constantly sending out smoke while we visited (it was an active volcano three weeks before we arrived).

Our family of 15 decided to explore the historic portion of Taormina by following Rick Steve’s walking tour in his book about Sicily.

At each stop in the book’s walking tour, the family would stop to listen about the location’s history.

If we were allowed to go in, we would explore the architecture and have a peaceful moment of reflection.

The water fountains were a favorite stop. Not only can you count on a fresh drink of water, if you’re my son, you can also cool off by getting your head wet.

Taormina does have a Greek amphitheater that can be visited for a fee. Somehow, we fell upon a free amphitheater behind a church near the far end of the main street. It was a fun discovery!

Today’s Fortnum and Mason tea is Earl Grey Classic, which turned out smooth and flavorful. Fun fact, British Prime Minister Earl Grey gave his name to this popular classic Afternoon Tea in the 1830s. Traditionally, it is a simple black tea with the aromatic flavor of bergamot and can be served with or without milk. Have a happy 20 days until Christmas.
