17 Days until Christmas 2025: Luau Kalamaku, Lihue Kauai

Aloha! Happy 17 days until Christmas!

While in Kauai, we went to Luau Kalamaku in Lihue. I’ve been here once before, but it was my husband and son’s first time. So, of course, we had to take a short train ride around the plantation!

From the train, we saw native plants and learned about the history of the livestock animals at the plantation and how they got into Kauai.

Halfway through the train ride, the train stopped. They provided snacks for us to give the animals, and my kiddo loved feeding them. I had a soft spot for the donkey who stayed near us.

When back at the luau, we walked around the local market that occurred before the luau began. We bought bone carved necklaces, a ring, and a wood carved cane. There were so many great options created by artists!

One of the lesser known highlights of attending this luau is pulling the kalua pork from the “underground oven,” which is a traditional cooking method.

The food was delicious, but the entertainment was even better! We loved hearing the Polynesian story about discovering the Islands.  But once the fire came out, my son’s attention was captured. In fact he told me I must take photos. The warrior fire dancer was my favorite and a highlight of the show. It was a wonderful night with the family.

We have arrived at the last of the Hawaiian Islands Tea Company flavors that I bought. This one is my husband’s favorite. It is a green tea with hibiscus and honey lemon flavor. It’s a little sweet but especially good when feeling under the weather.
