“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

My husband and I try to get away each year around our anniversary. Happy 7 years to us!

I’ve seen this airbnb Hobbit Hole listing for a few years but it is always booked. So every now and then I check in on its availability. Finally! Last summer I saw exactly 2 nights open and I booked it.

Upon arrival, we were charmed with the outside and could not wait to get our dorkiness on! But the owner came and told us how to get in and chatted. Very nice guy, but I really needed a visit to our hobbit sized bathroom. Pronto.

Once business was taken care of, our little getaway began.

We decided to explore the flower patches and build a small fire to enjoy that night. We knew the following day would be rainy, so we enjoyed the outdoors while we could. It was so relaxing and peaceful.

The following day we enjoyed watching the rain from inside. When we booked this, we planned to watch all the Lord of the Rings movies. We brought our laptop (no tv) and had a marathon!

We set out and did what we meant to do. It was fantastic! There’s not much to do in this area. So if you are hoping to get out and do things, this may not be the place for you.

We got our nerdiness on and had a fantastic time being this close to the Shire.
This is fantastic!!! What a wonderful experience and find!!!! I love LOTR and my husband does too. Happy Anniversary. Did they have any tea offerings inside?

Yes! The host left some tea bags, coffee, orange juice, water, waffle making supplies, eggs and a few other things. We packed everything we wanted, since we didn’t know these things would be left. On this trip we went to Compass Tea, which I wrote about in my previous post.

Bigelow and a company I’ve never tried before, so I brought one home. It’s called Greenfield Spring Melody black tea. I’ll try it soon!
